Dancing in Ashes
Dancing in Ashes (2016), acrylic on canvas, 100cmx75cm
Inspired by the Black Saturday bushfires that occurred in February 2009 where 39 people died in central Victoria. The event put the whole state in shock. Not many people said anything but await the next news report of what they found amongst the remains.
As a contrast, this piece has the ashes as a background, the bumps in the texture paste feel uneasy, but are highlighted with metallic paint. The 'dancing' lines represent the waves of shock and grief.
